Okay, here is my sharing about remaking Patek Philippe PP Calatrava 5088/100P-001:

I saw this super cool watch online, the Patek Philippe Calatrava 5088/100P-001. It’s got this crazy detailed engraving on it, and I thought, “I gotta try to make that!” So, I started by just staring at a bunch of pictures of the watch. I zoomed in, looked at all the little swirls and details, just trying to get a feel for the design.

Finding the Right Materials

Next, I needed to figure out what to use. The real watch is made of platinum, which is way out of my budget. So I decided to go with a piece of copper plate I had lying around. I also got some basic engraving tools from a local craft store – nothing fancy, just some chisels and a small hammer. I knew it wouldn’t be perfect, but it was a start.

The Engraving Process

This was the hard part. I started by lightly sketching the basic design onto the copper with a pencil. Then, I took a deep breath and started chiseling. It was tough! My hands got tired really fast, and I made a bunch of mistakes. I had to keep sanding down the copper and starting over.

  • First, I tried to do the big swirls on the outside. That was a disaster.
  • Then, I practiced on a separate piece of copper until I got a little better.
  • After that, I went back to the main piece and slowly, very slowly, started making progress.

The Details

The tiny details were the worst. I spent hours just trying to get those little floral patterns right. I even tried using a magnifying glass to see better, but it didn’t really help much. I just kept at it, chipping away, making tiny adjustments, and hoping for the best.

The Final Result

After what felt like forever, I finally finished. It’s definitely not as good as the real Patek Philippe, not even close. But, I’m still pretty proud of it. It’s rough around the edges, and some of the lines are a bit wonky, but it’s my own handmade version of that beautiful design. I learned a lot during this project, and it gave me a whole new appreciation for the skill of those master watchmakers. They must be super patient!

It was a fun, but difficult challenge. It took a lot of time and effort, but in the end, I think it was worth it. It shows that even without fancy tools or expensive materials, you can still try to create something beautiful. Maybe I’ll try another watch next time, who knows!
