Alright, folks, gather ’round, gather ’round! Let me tell you about this little project I been workin’ on. So, you know how my grandson keeps goin’ on and on about these fancy Patek Philippe watches? Well, I decided to try my hand at makin’ one myself, a RemakePatek Philippe PP Calatrava 6119R-001. And let me tell ya, it ain’t as easy as it looks!
First thing I did was I searched for a ton of pictures of this Patek Philippe, you know, the Calatrava 6119R-001. I needed to get a good look at every nook and cranny. I printed them all over, and started to figure out the gist of this watch.
I knew I was gonna remake this watch, so I start to get all the parts I needed. I went online, checked out some of those online shopping places. Found some decent-looking hands, a strap that looked kinda like the real deal, and a movement that, well, it ticked, so that was good enough for me.
Then came the hard part – puttin’ it all together. Now, I’ve tinkered with a few clocks in my day, but this was a whole different ball game. These parts are tiny, I mean real tiny! My old eyes ain’t what they used to be, so I had to get myself one of those magnifying glasses, you know, the ones that make you look like a mad scientist.
I started with the movement, that’s the heart of the watch, ya know. I carefully placed it into the case, makin’ sure it was snug as a bug in a rug. Then came the dial, that’s the face of the watch. It was a bit fiddly, but I managed to get it on straight.
Next up were the hands. Now, these little guys were a real pain in the you-know-what. They’re so small and delicate, and you gotta get ’em on just right. One wrong move and you could bend ’em or scratch the dial. But after a few tries, and maybe a few choice words, I got ’em on there.
Last but not least, I attached the strap. This was probably the easiest part, thank goodness. Just had to use a little tool to push in the pins and voila, it was done!
Here’s a little breakdown of what I did:
- Gathered my tools: Screwdrivers, tweezers, magnifying glass, the whole shebang.
- Found my parts: Case, movement, dial, hands, strap – you name it.
- Put the movement in the case: Like puttin’ a puzzle together, but way more delicate.
- Attached the dial: Had to be real careful not to scratch it.
- Put on the hands: This was the trickiest part, those things are tiny!
- Attached the strap: Easy peasy, just had to push in the pins.
Now, I ain’t gonna lie, my remake ain’t perfect. It’s got its quirks, and it definitely ain’t worth thousands of dollars like the real one. But you know what? I made it with my own two hands, and that’s somethin’ to be proud of.
It’s sittin’ on my desk now, tickin’ away. Every time I look at it, I think, “Yeah, I did that.” And maybe, just maybe, my grandson will be a little impressed. Probably not, but a guy can dream, right?
So there ya have it, folks. My adventure in watchmakin’. It was a challenge, but a fun one. Who knows, maybe I’ll try my hand at another one someday. But for now, I think I’ll stick to fixin’ leaky faucets and the occasional broken toaster. Those are more my speed.
