Why so much money for a watch?
Now, why these watches cost so much, that’s what I don’t get. They say it’s ’cause they don’t make many of ’em. “Scarcity,” they call it. Like them limited edition dolls my granddaughter used to collect. The fewer there are, the more folks want ’em, I reckon. And they say these Patek fellas are real good at makin’ watches. Been doin’ it for years and years. Got all sorts of fancy tools and whatnot.
This 5226G-001, they say it’s got a special kinda movement inside. Automatic, they call it. Don’t need no windin’. Just wear it on your wrist, and it keeps on tickin’. Like magic, I tell ya. They say this watch is for “collectors.” Folks who like to buy up fancy things and keep ’em. I guess if you got the money, why not? Me, I’d rather spend my money on somethin’ practical. Like a new roof for the shed, or maybe a nice plump hog for butcherin’.
They made this watch in 2022, it’s a new model. The old ones, the Patek Philippe Calatrava, those were already fancy. But this one, this 5226, it has something special, for a new customer. But I think all customers are good, no need to choose. And for me all these watches look the same, like two peas in a pod.
This watch is not for everyone
But I guess these watches ain’t for everyone. They’re for folks who appreciate the finer things in life. Folks who got money to burn. Me, I’m happy with my old Timex. It tells the time just fine, and it don’t cost an arm and a leg.
This Patek Philippe Calatrava 5226G-001, it’s a beautiful watch, I gotta admit. But it’s just a watch, at the end of the day. It tells the time, same as any other watch. Just costs a whole lot more. If you got the money, and you like fancy things, then maybe it’s worth it. But for me, I’ll stick with my Timex. It’s good enough for an old gal like me. This remake is the same, I can see no difference. Only money.
So many people want this watch. I don’t know why. It is a big number on the tag, 35, with three zeros. Too much money. For this amount, you can have so many good things, not just a watch.
