Alright, so I’ve been messing around with watches lately, and let me tell you, it’s a wild world out there. Today, I’m diving deep into my little project: trying to make a Rolex Black Submariner that looks like the real deal, but isn’t. Yeah, you heard that right, a high-quality fake. Don’t judge, it’s all for fun and learning, okay?
First off, getting started was a pain. I spent hours, and I mean hours, scrolling through forums and shady websites trying to figure out what makes a Submariner tick. I learned that the real ones are heavy, like around 150 grams, and they’re about 40 millimeters in size. So, I needed to find parts that matched up.
Finding the Parts
- Case: This was the first big hurdle. I found a decent stainless steel case online that was the right size. Close enough, I guess.
- Movement: This is where things got tricky. I read that even the pros struggle to tell the difference in movements in high-quality replicas. In the end I chose a pretty basic automatic movement that has a similar look to the real deal.
- Dial and Hands: These had to look legit. I managed to find some that were pretty close, but the devil’s in the details, you know?
- Bracelet: Got a stainless steel one that felt hefty enough. It’s not the real deal, but it doesn’t feel like cheap plastic either.
Putting it all together was like assembling a puzzle, but with tiny, frustrating pieces. I watched a bunch of videos and even messed up a couple of times. I almost gave up, but I’m stubborn like that.
After a lot of trial and error, and maybe a few curse words, I finally got something that looked like a Black Submariner. It’s not perfect, no way, but it’s pretty darn close. I wore it around the house, showed it to a couple of friends, and they were fooled, at least at first glance.
Now, I’m not saying this thing could pass a real inspection. I did look online, and apparently, telling a fake from a real Rolex from just pictures is super hard unless you’re a pro. So, maybe at a quick glance online, it might pass. I wouldn’t try to sell it as real. That’s not my style.
This whole thing was more about the challenge and learning about watches. It’s crazy how much detail goes into these things. Would I do it again? Maybe. It was fun, frustrating, but definitely a learning experience. I guess the big takeaway is that making a convincing fake is way harder than it looks. But hey, it’s a cool story to tell, right?
Anyway, that’s my little adventure in the world of fake watches. I hope you found it interesting. Don’t try to be like me, just do it for yourself.
